Coffee for Soldiers at BORDERS

e looking at books in BORDERS bookstore yesterday. When you check out, you can purchase a bag of Seattle's Best Coffee & they'll ship it over to the soldiers for you :) We all need our coffee, especially those wonderful people serving our country! Stop by BORDERS

Gotta shout out to our good friend Ryan Kelly in Afghanistan now. We're keeping you in our prayers good man and hoping you can return home to Janice and Pearce very soon!

As parents, we have a list of things that we want to do right when it comes to raising our children. We hope to share with them the love of God...teach them good manners, to be respectful of others....we try to identify their talents and gifts and encourage them to work hard, never give up and always do their best. We want to spend special moments with them, take them places, teach them, grow them....the lists go on and on.
But, as Greyson and Riley's mom, I hope to do this one specific thing well. I hope to raise them to be giving and loving to others....appreciative of the things they have in life and aware of the people and needs of others around them.....to think of others before they think of themselves....to have and heart and mind that's always open and willing to serve and do for others. Okay, maybe that's more than one specific thing!
But how do I teach this to them if I'm still working on this as an adult? Well, we're going to practice this together this year. One sweet treat a week....for someone else. Afterall, isn't that why we're all here? To give of ourselves and love each other the way God loves us?

So let's get this ball rollin!

Okay...One thing I love about the fall and the start of a new school year is getting back into a routine. It always seems to be the time of year when I make my "New Year Resolutions" just a little late. :) One thing we kinda started doing regularly last year has gripped my heart and God is tugging at me to do more. So...The Jones' Family is setting a new goal this year...The ONE SWEET TREAT A WEEK DIET! Cookies, brownies and ice cream may be part of it. However, this diet is going to call for us to do ONE SWEET TREAT A WEEK...for someone else.
I thought this would be a fun way to journal the things we do as a family, so we can look back at the end of the year and remember all the joy that these simple things brought to our lives as well as others'. I don't want to fizzle out either...so this is going to keep us accountable! Not only will this be a great way to share the ideas we've come up with to serve others in our family, community, ect...but I'm really hoping other people will share their ideas with us too!
Greyson isn't in school on Fridays, so Friday is going to be our day. Some weeks, it may be something soooo simple. Other weeks, it may take a little more time, a little more $$ and a little more preparation. But, each Friday is going to have a new definition this year. Yep, we'll be celebrating the arrival of the weekend. But, now when we wake up on Friday, we're going to make sure not to just go about the day thinking of ourselves. Friday is going to be a day to celebrate others!!!
